Waterproofing Mycelium

Hey all, Have been thinking about replacing our use of plastic foam with mycelium foam. However I am concerned about the reaction of the mycelium to some water ingress. For example, imagine internationally shipping a cardboard box padded with mycelium foam. It may be sitting outside in the rain briefly before being loaded into the cargo hold. The rain might soak through the cardboard and get into the padding. Wouldn't this cause the mycelium to start growing again? A few days transit with darkness and moisture and you would end up with mushrooms coming out of the box! Any ideas how to prevent this? Perhaps by waterproofing but are there any easy and environmentally friendly ways of doing this? Regards
